You will be angling some of the best rivers and lakes in Southern Africa that teem with a plethora of species. In addition, you get the added benefit of being in some of the area’s most beautiful locations. Although the focus of the safari is angling, you’ll get to take in some spectacularly scenic locations. Visit game reserves featuring wildlife such as elephant, buffalo, lion, hippo, crocodile and various plains game species. Soak in the world-renowned natural wonder Victoria Falls, and discover the different cultures of Southern Africa. Arrival Day:
Your personal safari guide will meet you at the airport in Rundu and transfer you to Shakawe Fishing Camp in Botswana to begin your adventure.
Day 1:
After an early breakfast, your guide will disclose the tricks of the trade angling this region’s rivers and lakes. Then depart in an aluminum style riverboat on the Okavango River and spend the day angling for tiger fish, nembwe, three-spot tilapia, thin-faced largemouth, sharp-tooth and blunt-tooth catfish, African pike, greenhead tilapia and purple-face largemouth. End the day with a breathtaking sunset cruise.
Day 2:
More of the same for today. Spend the day angling the Okavango River. The area also has an abundance of bird life that, in itself, is worth the trip. Keep a look out for hippos in the river and crocodiles basking in the sun on the river banks.
Day 3:
Depart early in the morning and travel east through Namibia toward the mighty Zambezi. En-route, you’ll visit the Mahangu Game Reserve where you’ll go on a game drive to view elephant, hippo, buffalo, sable antelope and various other plains game species before visiting Popa Falls. After checking in at the lodge, try your luck at catching some small tiger fish in the reeds before another spectacular sunset cruise.
Day 4:
The camping-style houseboats will be ready for departure straight after breakfast. You’ll be trawling up and down the Zambezi waiting for that monster tiger fish to take the rapala. Get ready as you’ll be in for one hell of a fight!! The skipper will also take you to spots to catch some smaller tiger fish with spinners – this is some serious fun!! The houseboat will dock on one of the sandbank islands in the Zambezi river where the crew will pitch the roof top tents on the boat and prepare a well deserved meal on an open fire under the African night sky. Night angling for catfish is on the agenda for the evening.
Day 5:
Make your way back to the lodge with the houseboat before departing for Victoria Falls in Zimbabwe. Along the way, you’ll travel through Botswana and the Chobi Game Reserve where you can expect to see elephant, lion, sable antelope, tsessebe and various plains game species. The afternoon will be spent viewing one of the natural wonders of the world — Victoria Falls.
Day 6:
Spend the day in the Victoria Falls area where you can partake in activities such as helicopter flips, bungee jumping, white water rafting and elephant back safaris to name a few. You’re in for a real treat with tonight’s dinner as you sample African cuisine while being entertained by the African singers and dancers.
Day 7:
Travel further east towards Lake Kariba where the houseboat will be waiting to take you around this magnificent lake. The houseboats are equipped with luxury en-suite cabins , a bar, restaurant and jacuzzi to make your stay as comfortable as possible, There are dinghy’s available for angling excursions during the day.
Day 8:
Spend the day angling Lake Kariba, returning to the houseboat for lunch or to relax a bit. Species in the lake include tiger fish, bream, electric catfish, vundu, red breasted tilapia, chessa, nkupe, and purple labeo.
Departure day:
Your guide will ensure you make it to the airport well in time for your flight back home from Victoria Falls.

Camping Option: Fully assisted camping means we take care of everything. We put up the tents and supply you with a stretcher bed and mattress, sleeping bag and pillow, bedside table and LED light. We’ll prepare open-fire meals under the African night sky. After dinner, relax by the fire and listen to the night sounds of Africa. All campsites have superb ablution facilities.

Lodging Option: Stay in some of the best lodges and guesthouses around that provide real value for money. BushTrails has spent years visiting different establishments to ensure we only select the best for our safaris. Meals will be provided by the lodges and guesthouses unless otherwise indicated on the Itinerary. One night will be spent on a camping style houseboat on an island in the Zambezi River. The boat is equipped with a restroom, shower and rooftop tent. If you prefer not to spend the night on the camping style houseboat, we could return to the lodge instead. We do recommend you be a little adventurous, however, as this is a fantastic experience.

Khaya Guest House:

Arrival and Departure day Accommodation will be provided at our very own Khaya Guesthouse. All rooms are equipped with air conditioning, wi-fi, satellite television, mini bar and coffee station. The evenings will be spent around the fire pit discussing the adventure to come or safari memories that will last a lifetime.
