South Africa
Day 1
Your Guide collects you from the hotel and you travel along the N2 Highway to Clarence Drive. This is one of the most scenic drives along the shores of False Bay. We stop in Betty’s Bay to view the large colony of African Penguins before we continue to the coastal town of Hermanus. Between June and November you are likely to spot the Southern Right Whale on the coast. These huge, gentle creatures come to our coasts to mate and calve.
Day 2
We continue our journey along the East Coast to Mossel Bay. It is here that the Portugese sailor Bartholomew Diaz first set foot on the South African shores, after having rounded the Cape in 1488. We visit the Diaz museum with its Caravelle, a replica of the original boat used by Diaz to round the Cape. Then our journey takes us further via George, the unoffical capital of the Garden Route. We continue along the N2 along the lake districts of Wilderness and Sedgefield to Knysna.
Day 3
Our travels take us to along the Garden Route to Tsitsikamma National Park. Here we can do a 1km walk to the longest suspension bridge in South Africa. The panorama is breathtaking and if you do not feel like walking, just sit down and enjoy the environment. We stop at the Bloukrans bridge, with the highest bungy jump off a bridge. It is 216m, high and mentioned in the Guinness Book of Records, it is also the highest cement arch bridge in the world. We then continue to Plettenberg Bay. This is the playground for the rich and famous. With its beautiful beaches as well as the Robberg Nature Reserve it is a jewel in the Garden Route district.
Day 4
We leave Knysna along the lake district, for Oudtshoorn, the capital of the Little Karoo (Semi Desert). Here we do a tour of the spectacular Cango Caves, an underground wonder and if time permits, visit a working Ostrich farm.
Day 5
After a hearty breakfast we leave Oudtshoorn and travel along Route 62, South Africa’s longest wine route, back to Cape Town. We stop at interesting places enroute as we travel through Calitzdorp, the Portwine capital of South Africa, Ladismith, Barrydale and Montagu. Overnight Cape Town.
