Meet up at the Protea Hotel and enjoy dinner together with a short presentation on the adventure that awaits!
Our first stop is Velddrif with a visit to the famous Bokkomlaan and Fisherman’s Warf. Continue on to Dwarskersbos travel past Rocherpan and the Verlorenvlei. Elandsbay is our next destination, a small village with a history rooted in fishing. We take some time to visit Vensterklip before continuing to Lambert’s Bay where we visit the historic harbour and Bird Island.
We continue north to the small fishing village of Doring Bay famous for its crayfish exports and home to one of the most secluded wineries in South Africa. We travel past Garies, a small agricultural centre which started out as a Church site for a wide spread community. We then travel past Wallekraal, a now derelict town which once boasted a school with a boarding house, Stores and a Church, even into the second half of the 20th Century. From here we continue on to Hondeklipbaai, a harbour which was once a centre for diamond diving.
We continue further north past Kleinzee, once a thriving diamond mining town, then onward past Port Nolloth and Alexander Bay before crossing the Orange River into Namibia.
We visit the Jasper Museum in Oranjemund for an insight into days gone by before heading east along the Orange River past Rosh Pinah to Aussenkehr, one of Namibia’s largest farms, where we stop to have lunch. We now start heading north along the Fish River to the Fish River Canyon, the world’s second largest canyon, where we take some time to marvel at this natural wonder.
Our first stop is Naute Kristalll where you can sample some of the German style schnapps, they distil from a variety of fruits including prickly pear, grapes and dates. We travel past the Naute Dam before turning westward towards Aus. We visit some World War Two memorial sites including a concentration camp, cemetery and fortifications.
An early breakfast gets us on our way to Luderitz. En-route we visit the Wild Horses of the Namib and the diamond mining ghost town of Kolmanskop. Enjoy lunch at the Luderitz Waterfront before boarding a vessel for a tour of the harbour and seal islands. Head back to Aus where we overnight.
We leave the tarmac behind and head north into the Namib Desert towards Sesriem. En-route we visit Duwiseb Castle built by army officer Baron von Wolf for his American wife Jayta in the early 1900’s. Arrive at our Desert Lodge and take some time to relax by the pool. The lodge offers an optional sun downer nature drive for those that are interested, this activity is optional at an additional fee.
Travel south to Sesriem where you can board a hot air balloon for a breathtaking ride at sunrise over the dunes of the Namib. This activity is optional at an additional fee. From Sesriem we enter the Namib Naukluft Park and take a breathtaking drive along the sand dunes to Sossusvlei and Deadvlei where you will be treated to some of the most spectacular scenery on the planet. Return to the Desert Lodge and spend some time relaxing by the pool.
Travel Northwest to Swakopmund on the Skeleton Coast, en-route we pass through some breathtaking scenery and enjoy some world-famous apple pie at Moose McGregor’s Desert Bakery. We arrive in Swakopmund in time for lunch and then take some time to explore the quaint coastal towns many shops, cafés and other points of interest.
You have the option of a Dolphin Cruise, 4×4 dune drive to Sandwich Harbour or Tommy’s Living Desert Tour at an additional fee or join your guide for a Desert Tour and visit to the Moon Landscape which is included in your package. Enjoy some excellent restaurants in town.
Travel West to Okapuka Lodge just north of Windhoek, Namibia’s Capital City. En-route visit the Okahandja Wood Carvers Market where you can barter for something special from Namibia. In Windhoek we do a short city tour, visit the Craft Centre and have dinner at the world-famous Joe’s Beerhouse.
Transfer to the Airport for your flight back home.
